Tax back on college fees

I’ve 2 children in college and have paid €6000 in fees for this year. As I’d paid the amount in full before Christmas 2019 I made a claim online in mid January 2020. When should I expect the €600 refund as I’ve heard nothing as yet? Is this normally just refunded as cash into a bank account or is it some sort of credit?

Is it not just any excess over 3k you per student you get relief on?

I think the maths is right but whatever the amount I’m just trying to find out how (what method) and when it should be received by me 😄

If this was a 2019 tax return you filed on ROS there have been big delays.

If your bank a/c is registered then it will go there once processed. If not then they will send a cheque.

Tuition fees (including the student contribution)

I get confused with these 2 terms and on the college web site they refer to it as the student contribution fee (or parent more like). I think its standard across most uni's. I'm in the same boat I have to totally fund my two children, so it was €6000 and you can claim 20% back but only on the second set of fees. So 20% of €3000= €600.

thanks for that. It was just a claim made on this one item (student fees). Just heard people in my office saying they got health fees back in 2 weeks. I've been waiting 4 weeks. Anyway as long as I get it.

    that's good to know thanks

Sorry for hijacking but ive a similar question:

I’m currently pursuing a third level masters course. I have paid two thirds of the fees and my partner has paid the other third. I understand there is tax relief available for third level fees and that my course is eligible for this. Are both my partner and I entitled to apply for this relief separately?

No because its only one course

The maximum amount you can claim is €7,000 per person per course.
