Looking at retiring my 2010 focus diesel hatchback. Got it six years ago at 90k miles, and I'm now pushing 180.

Car mostly carries me in and out to work, about 30 km each way, with wife and two kids added for the weekends.

I'd like a little bigger next time. Previous car was a 07 Octavia vrs, which was great (bar some turbo issue), and prior to that, an avensis (another 2L diesel).

I've test driven a 2015 Mondeo 1.6, which was nice, and a Octavia (150 ps), but didn't like the look of the engine bay (rusty water marks all over)

I'd like a nice spec, Bluetooth, Aircon etc. Saw a nice Octavia online, https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2015-skoda-octavia-2-0-tdi-dsg-high-spec/23186865 but I think the mileage is a bit high for me.

I think an Octavia would be a good buy for me, but I'm unsure of the 1.6, or the 2L would be the better buy. Year wise, I was thinking about 2015.

Any other suggestions? Trade ins would be useful, but selling my focus private is doable. Based in Clare, but can travel. 😀

    EV?

I work in a place that currently has 2 charging points, and home has a driveway, so it's an option.

    Or a hybrid

If you found the Mondeo ok (I think they’re horrendously underpowered at low speeds) you’ll find the 1.6 Octavia ok.
2.0 are very rare in Ireland, and the nox tax has kind of put the price of uk ones way up to the price level of Irish ones.

Seat Leon ST might be worth a look. It was between that and the Octavia for me.

The interior of the superb does look a lot better than the Octavia. Thanks all for your suggestions.

I know you've all been waiting with baited breath!

I've been looking at this car online. The price and the spec of the car look good. Would the mileage put you off? In my head i've been thinking... 108k miles, then 123... And in 5 years i'm pretty much back where I was. Should I try to aim for something with lower mileage?

what does mileage really matter though? you dont change a car based on that factor... In general cars are a huge waste of money, unless you are being done on tax or fuel now in a current car, better off just hanging onto what you have... the current focus you have, will be near worthless with the mileage. I just point this out, because often people buy the newer car first and then wouldnt have changed, if they new how little they would get for their old car

personally if it were me changing now, I would go electric, at least that way, you kill the fuel, tax and servicing bill. Your options would be limited to a 30kw hour leaf though, I think.. so depends if you would be happy in it

my new mantra with cars is, I will be DONE on one cost only, be it depreciation, motor tax and I mean HIGH MOTOR TAX or Fuel. But only one of those...

in fairness, depending on the age of the kids, focus arent the biggest. That is a nice looking Octavia...

I wouldn’t be put off by the mileage. Just get the cam belt done if not done already.

    That’s very similar to mine.

It might have adblue. I’d say it’s Euro6 being late 2015

It seems to be priced pretty well.
