Hardware Question

    So i play some games on my laptop(all good on that front).

    I sometimes like to use my TV for game...connecting the laptop via HDMI, but I can't close down my laptop as it causes the game to freeze/stop working.

    Is there a way around this.

    Depends on the laptop. I can run my Mac in clamshell mode once an external display, mouse and keyboard are connected. I’d imagine it varies widely with Windows. I know you can edit the behaviour when you close the lid in the Power section of Settings.

    Be careful, make sure doing this won’t thermally compromise the machine.

    Yes cause you are changing the display settings when closing it mid game probably. Change it to ignore when closing the lid or close the lid before you start the game.

    It won't thermally compromise the laptop. Ive seen 1000's of laptops closed running 24/7 without issue in various offices over the years some of these are high end machines running autocad etc.

    Ye are both right. Actually depends on the machine.

    My previous laptop was very high end and could do the same. My mates was very similar spec, BUT his cooled differently to mine and the keyboard ended up burning onto the laptop screen when closed for long periods while connecting to TV. Just make sure the venting and cooling are top notch.

    It should be in Power Management/Power Plan settings,change what happens when lid is closed.

    Could leave it a fraction open just to help with heat dissapation. Or close it then check after a half hour how hot it is.

    Never heard of leaving it closed being an issue but as other have seen it happen best to make sure.
