    Hey

    Cheers

How many dependent kids have you and what is the spouses gross pay per week less PRSI and pension contributions.

Is there a formula for working this out? My OH earns 600 p.w. 2 dependant kids.

First of all you work out your family JSA payment if neither of you were working or had any other income or savings in excess of €20000.
    So you would have
    You: €203
    Spouse€134.70
    Kids (under 12) €36 x 2 = €72
    Total €409.70
Then you look at your OH gross wages less PRSI and pension
    =€600
To work out the “means” ye have from this 600 you can first “allow” €20 per day that the spouse works up to a max of 3 days.
So you can deduct €60 from the €600.
    Figure is now €540
SW don’t consider all of that “means” only 60% of it so the new figure is €324.
So the wages of €600 is only considered to be worth €324 to SW.
So from the max SW of €409.70 they will deduct your means of €324 = €85.70.
    Your JSA payment is €85.70.
It’s a pity public services like SW and medical cards and housing payments aren’t taught at secondary school level.
