2007 Kia Ceed 1.6crdi boot locking problem

Hi I have a 2007 Kia ceed 1.6 crdi car. The problem is that the boot won’t open when using the key fob and also when I actually put the key in the drivers door and unlock from there. There is no place to insert the key in the locking mechanism in the actual boot door itself.

I can access the lock via the inside of the car, by letting down the rear seats and then by the removal of a plastic access panel on the boot door. There then is a leaver on the lock itself which I can move across and then the boot will open.

Would the problem be that the lock itself is broken or could this be an electrical problem? There obviously is a wiring loom connected to the lock. Replacement of the lock looks like a simple fix (a few screws) and i can get a second hand lock from a car breakers in my area but I’m afraid of buying and replacing the lock and then the problem being something else.

Is there any way i can find out for sure myself? Or do you reckon it is definitely the lock that is the problem?

    Thanks

Does the boot lock make any noise when you lock/unlock?

    No it doesn’t

I have a multi meter and volt pen. The problem is that I don’t know what wires to test across. Quite a few wires on the loom and I don’t want to short out anything.

I’ll post a few pictures tomorrow.

I was talking to a mechanic and he was saying that he is fairly sure its just the boot switch that needs replacing and not the actual lock itself.
