Are you planning to or have you booked flights to Asia despite the Corona Virus?

I know there's a massive thread in the current affairs forum but my question got buried in there.

VHI travel (and some others) will cover cancellation of a trip providing the country you are booking for is not conly on the department of foreign affairs 'no go list' at the time of flight or hotel booking, as of right now Maylasia and Thailand are not.

Am about to pull the trigger on flights and a hotel for a family holiday in Penang (stopping over in Bangkok) in late June (is part of a wider family meet up).

If either country get on the DFA no go list we will be covered for costs etc to cancel etc.

Is anyone else booking or concerned about booking for certain parts of Asia this year?

I should say I wouldn't proceed if we had planned China...

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I hated Malaysia but loved Thailand and would go back in a heartbeat.

Corona virus attacks a certain receptor in your cells and white Europeans have a significantly lower percentage of these than people of Asian heritage and even so it varies hugely.

Plus the death rate dropped yesterday for the first time. Can't see it being an issue for you in the summer

I've booked Thailand and Vietnam for April/May. Had a slight twinge about it but all things considered I'm not too bothered.

A small positive is that the currency is dropping a little too so it'll make for a cheaper holiday.

I’ve a flight to Beijing booked for July, booked from before the virus outbreak.
Presuming things will have calmed down by then, but should be covered by insurance anyway.

I've a trip planned to Hong Kong and Japan later this year (December). The only thing I haven't booked so far are the flights to Hong Kong. The prices have gone up since the epidemic, so just waiting for them to drop a bit before booking.

If you are going to worry like that then best never travel anywhere. I just booked flights to Thailand, was in China during SARS, Malaysia the week after the plane disappeared, was heading to New t York on September 11th from Pennsylvania.

You can't worry about things that are completely 100% out of your control. That being said, if the government or health organisation or foreign office says don't do it, then don't do it, that's just being foolhardy

I'm going to Singapore, Thailand and Philippines in April.

All I'm worried about is flights being canceled. Not that worried about going at all.

Lots of people not travelling to Hong Kong.. I expect by summer this will either have calmed down or else the pox will be widespread and travel everywhere will be affected.

    Thanks the responses lads.

I should have said, it's not that we are afraid of going it's more if things change and the DFA declare it a no go zone and us losing money as insurance doesn't cover.

Other family members in other countries cant get travel insurance that will cover cancellation if required so looks like we have to postpone the trip or find an alternative destination.
