I know a few people are on the dole and making money from youtube.

I'm just wondering is this illegal or are people on the dole allowed to make a limited amount of money from online "donations".

One guy I know whose on the dole made 70 quid from youtube in one month.

At 70 quid the dole might not care if he doesn't declare it.

€70 is nothing in one month

Surely it's similar to revenue €14,000 tax free income without declaring it???

Sure that's basically like a saving, €70 in savings is nothing and you wouldn't need to declare it but €70,000 you would..

The figure of 70 quid in one month, that's 840 (70 x 12) in one year and far below the threshold (5K) to register as self employed, so it's very low.

However, you are supposed to disclose any income you receive to the social welfare, and depending on the level of income, they may reduce your payment accordingly.

It's very low payment, but if a person is playing it by the book, they disclose any means of income that they have.

I'm not judging the morals of it or anything, just disclosing what I'm aware of.

Did the guy declare the 70 quid?

The social welfare does look at social media to catch people out.

Right at this point in time, I’d say they’ve enough to be doing.
