Rotterdam Marathon Course Profile for Sub 3 hour attempt

    Hi all

I'm hoping some people can give some advice on the Rotterdam marathon which I will be taking part in in less than 8 weeks time.

I am training at the moment for a sub 3 time and overall training is going well. I am coming off a 3.07 time in Dublin which I felt good overall in.

For Dublin I did a negative split as I read in advance the first half was tougher.

I have heard that Rotterdam is very flat and I have seen online videos of the course but I am looking for advice from people who have done it in last few years.

Is it all flat or are there areas to watch out for?

Would people suggest even split times or a slight negative split?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers
    Rufus

Good luck with it. The city is just full of runners for the whole weekend. Kids races on the Saturday, brilliant atmosphere.

I haven't done the full over there. I was there last year though as a spectator, the thing that struck me was the heat. It was very warm.

AMK has a great race report from last year which you may find helpful

I ran it last year and there were no hills of note but a bit of a drag when you get back into the city center around the 27km mark. Just control your effort levels on it but nothing to worry about. As AMK mentions it was very warm last year so have a think about how you might prepare for that if it happens again. If aim is sub 3 I would try to cross halfway in 1.29.xx.

Agreed with Rob - prepare for the heat.

I wore a white cap last year and took 2 sponges at each station, I placed one in my cap!!

Course is pretty boring early on but you should have a good crowd around you.

Only 1 rise of note out of an underpass around 16-17 miles - felt like a mountain at the time as temps were rising.

    That's great.

Cheers for the replies. Looking forward to it. Hard to imagine a warm marathon 7 weeks from now with the weather we are having here!!
    Thanks again
