    Hi

We are thinking of moving to a gas hob as our electric one died

How can I tell if I can put in a gas hob?

I had a look behind the kitchen cabinets and their is what looks like a gas supply coming up....upright copper pipe

Is there anything else I need?

    Thanks

You will need a RGI engineer to install it so why not get him to have a look before you buy. Make sure he gives you a cert once installed. Keep the cert with the hobs receipt. Most manufacturers won't repair or replace the hobs under the warranty if you don't have the certificate.

When choosing one make sure you buy one the same size or bigger. Buying one smaller means that you will need to replace the worktop. If you are getting a bigger one, make sure your RGI guy is comfortable cutting a bigger hole in the worktop. If he's not then you might need to pay a carpenter to cut the hole.

Electric oven is better than gas but a gas hobs beats the pants off an electric one.
