Garage has quoted me these on a Golf GTD. Are they good quality or dirt brands?

Juratek are grand, I've used them a couple times, cant say anything about Allied Nipon as I've never used them but based on reviews they don't seem great.

I'm sure others can chime in.

How much did they quote you for them?

Feck that, there is no reason to use unknown pads, proper branded ones are cheap. Why would anyone skimp here of all places?

My comment was aimed at the mechanic, not you. :)

Anyhow front and rear disks and pad plus minor service for 400e. Think its quite good hence wondering are the parts dirt quality or reasonable

Front and rear discs and pads and an oil change for €400 sounds too cheap to me.

Not a main dealer. Said they only bill for labour time they need. Just under 2 hours. I actually rang and checked had they quoted me righr and thats what service manager told me. 1st time in my life ive had to ring a garage and check had they priced it right

It's a good price alright, I paid €300 recently for new pads and disks on a Superb. This is a two hour job for a good mechanic, he wont be making much on the job, but I'd still be insisting on better pads.

Yea thats kinda what I reckon 300 for pads and disks and a skinny 100 for basic service. I actually rang and said I dont mind paying a little more for good quality disks and pads cuz I dont want chinese **** and he assured me they use them on all their cars so they good quality. Just dont see why he wouldnt I could pay for more dearer discs and pads unless their local motor factors dont stock anything better quality

Why not ask him what the price is if you supply your own pads, then buy decent ones around €50?

Fair point but tbh I've had so much hassle with cars lately I'm trying to get the car fixed right and for not silly money so I can move on with my life (with the least complexity as possible!)

If he agrees get yourself a set of Pagid or Mintex discs/pads from EuroCarParts, order online for click and collect using their promo code usually found on the main page of their website. You could probably get cheaper from your local MotorFactors also.

Or stick with the Juratek discs and just get the pads yourself, stick with the likes of Pagid or Mintex.

Yea ive heard mintex are good. In fairness asking a garage to fit parts you buy....is that not a very fast way to piss a garage off? How bad are the allied nipon cuz unless they are shockingly bad and wouldnt slow down a nissan micra ill leave as is. Im surprised a garage would put good quality disks with **** quality pads

    It’s Juratek total bottom end?

No offence, but the GTD is a performance oriented car, so maybe spend a little more on brakes if you plan on driving the car on.

VW fixed price servicing ain't that bad to be honest, for original parts it might work out about the same for discs and pads? They have them for €259 up to a 2 litre 4 years or older, dunno what year your car is.

Tbh Vw main dealer working out at the guts of 800e for everything....double independent....i cant be dealing with main dealers anymore after numerous years of poor customer service tbh

Still not a bad disc, have used them plenty before. OP did mention he only needs them for normal driving, hence why theres no reason to go too mad on price.

    ^^^^ yes,
i hear Landsail are doing brakes now ....

For normal, everyday driving just whatever the motor factors offer you is fine. As long as I've been driving, I've only ever asked for the cheapest available brakes. I never had a problem in 16 years of driving. They will be fine.

I'd be skeptical of asking for more expensive name brand brakes. The mechanic might say "yeah, sure no problem they are €600" then just go ahead and put on the ling-long brakes or whatever he has and pocket the difference.
On the off chance that someone might come back and point it out they will just say, "oh stupid apprentice didn't listen, I told him the expensive ones". And you might then get the brakes you want.

If the garage is using those Juratek or whatever brakes on all their Golfs then I don't see a problem. I haven't seen a disproportionate number of golfs stuck in ditches. They are fine for normal everyday driving around.

Sure if you buy Brembos or some other fancy big name brand, it is likely that they are also made in china and quite possibly come out of the same factory as the obscure named chinese brands. They'd just come with fancier marketing and a different stamp and a bigger price.

Op also has the option of just driving it normally like a normal person and not heeding any of this encouragement for dangerous aggressive and inconsiderate driving.
