    Hi Guys,

looking for some help here please.

i have a 2008 Kia Ceed SW diesel. i had a tow bar and lights fitted last year.

the lights have not worked correct since fitted in respect that the LH indicator when trailer fitted only blinks once.
This only happens when the car is running, when car is not running the indicator works fine.
all other lights work 100% including the RH indicator.

the lights came with the tow bar from a big brand name and they are spliced into the wiring.
now i have contacted a main dealer and they save for the version of car i have this is fine, i explained my issue and they said they have no idea, would ask around and get back to me,,,, they did with the answer, "never came across this before" we can change the wiring for you at an extortionate price.

has anyone ever came across this before please.

Have they used a bypass relay box at all?

They probably have if it's just the L/H Indicator that's giving a problem (not to say that it could be wired badly).
OP, have you just tried it with one Trailer ?
It could be an issue with the Trailer Lights (just the L/H Indicator shorting out for example)...and this can cause some canbus systems to stop functioning.
Strange that it only occurs when the car is actually running.
OP, do the Hazard Lights work correctly with the Car both off and running ?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, no relays just spliced straight into the tail lights of the car.
Not sure about the hazards lights, I will check, I am sick with this as I have been told it will cost another 140 euro plus to buy a "box" to fix it.

When I worked in Kia I used to see this a lot. Cowboy towbar fitters just splicing into the rear lamps wiring.
They are a canbus system so definately need a breakout box.

The Kia one will actually just plug straight into a block connector near the rear lamps. Theres no wiring involved and you could probably fit it yourself in a half hour.

The good towbar fitters will use their own box but you still have to splice into the loom somewhere.

Id go for the Kia one and fit it myself if I were you. Its probably as much to get it rewired by someone.

Its been about 7 years since I was in Kia. I honestly cant remember 100% where the connector is and Im guessing here is that its inside the LH quarter trim panel where the block connector for the lights is.
You basically plug the box into tha block connector and then plug the lamps block connector into the box. Then feed it down to your tow bar. Its that easy .
