Myself and my siblings are considering leasing our farm for solar use.
I'll be honest, I only really found out this was a thing recently and it's hard to find out much online so before I go to Teagasc or the IFA or IFAC, I figured I'd ask you guys.

    1. What companies operate solar farms?
    2. What is the minimum area normally required?
    3. How much is it actually worth to the landowner?
    4. What other restrictions/requirements are there (distance to substation, construction of substation/inverter building)?
    5. Is planning permission required/restrictive/stringent?
    6. Apparently sheep grazing between the panels is 'ok'. What is the insurance liability in the event of animal injuries or panels damaged?

I appreciate that's a lot of questions but any info would be helpful.
I guess the most important question is:

    9. Where should I actually go or who should I talk to, to get the currect legal info on all this?

To answer a few of your questions

    1) Lightforce and others - many are UK based that have come over here since subsidies for solar dried up over there a few years ago

    2) Generally 10 acres or more - need to be near existing power transmission infrastructure etc.

    3) This will depend on the government RESS for solar that is yet to be announced(and is why no solar farms have been built in the ROI to date) - plus the company running the farm will have to win an "auction" to avail of it ie. no win = no solar farm

    4) Substations etc. will be required

    5) PP is required and an EIS if the solar farm is over a certain size or near an EU designated area

    6) Sheep grazing should be ok - at least according to the spin the solar companies are putting out atm
