My Landcruiser chassis is rusting a bit, not too bad, but I want to keep it in check. Any advice on the best approach? Are there paint on solutions to convert rust any good? Was thinking of cleaning with a wire brush and painting with say hammerite paint!!

There's specific paint you can get for the underbody of vehicles, I'm not sure if you need to prep the area or if it can just be painted straight on.

    Here's some...

Dinitrol seems to be the best product to use for under body rust prevention, according to the research I did before treating the under body of my 03 motorhome. It's a 3 part system, first apply their rust converter product (after power washing and allowing to dry), then a thin preservative all over and in all cavities, and finally a tougher wax over that

I know a few people who use ACF 50 on the underbody of their classic cars when the want to drive them through the winter, its easy to put on and offers a good level of protection

I wax the chassis and body cavities of my Landcruiser every year, it works well but needs the annual top up to keep the rust at bay. I just use the regular Carplan brand cavity wax, about 25 euro for 5 litres, and I have a Sealey wax injector gun.

Get someone to steamclean the underside and apply an underbody seal coating.

Doing this every year is really a bit excessive and the benefits outweigh the costs.

if done properly a coating like this should be sufficient to protect the underbody and extend it's life for at least 5 years.

Unless this jeep is used in a very harsh marine environment there isn't really any need to do it again.

In 5 or 6 years time the jeep will likely be end of life anyway so whether the underside is rusted or not will hardly matter.

Probably better to get a professional outfit to do it properly, I know there is more than one place but these guys look very thorough.
