I brought my youngest daughter up to the Portlaoise count centre this morning, as she'd been asking a lot of questions about the election and is naturally curious. When we got there we were refused admittance because we didn't have a ticket! Tickets are issued by policitical parties and individual candidates apparently. We were very disappointed- the public count is restricted so can it really be considered a public count?

That's a strange one. We went into the Mayo one without anyone even on the door. My brother walked into the one in the RDS. I wonder who decided that tickets were needed for the Laois/Offaly count? Seems undemocratic to see democracy in action!

That's what I thought, the returning officer was one of the individuals who said we couldn't enter without the ticket.
