Do you have any links to back this up? I wonder what the pricing will be like.

This is already rolled out in parts of the UK too so i'd say it is true. VM are not going to sit back and let Eir/Siro 1GB lines overtake their urban dominance. As for pricing i'm guessing they will undercut the 1gig prices for Eir/Siro, perhaps around 70 euros per month. There wouldn't be much competition if VM keep the price of 1 gig up at 80 or 90 euros.

On the one hand I've heard rumours that VM are considering using the Siro network to offer their services.

On the other hand, I've heard that VM's network is capable of speeds exceeding 1Gbit, but their focus is on upgrading older/legacy areas to be able to reach the speeds they currently offer.

From providers on Siro €75 seems to be the going rate for 1Gbit while VM is charging €69 (after contract) for 500Mbit. I'm expecting they'll drop the 360Mbit offering for 250, 500, 1000 on similar prices.

It's also possible they might make 500Mbit the new introductory tier, and do 500, 750, 1000 which noone else is doing right now that I have noticed, would certainly twist the knife in the competition a bit more.

They'll do what they always do, "Free" speed upgrade then a price increase 3-6mo later.

SIRO is unlikely, LG like the end to end model as the margins are far thicker.

A decent TV service to actually compete with sky would be much better for them.

I'd say that maybe more a deal to allow VM offer their services in SIRO areas where VM have no presence yet, rather then offer SIRO in existing VM areas.

SIRO still aren't in most of the cities that VM are in. It would likely be cheaper for VM to upgrade their network for 1gig, then wait for Siro to be built out in these areas and likely have smaller margins.

Having said that LG have sold off their cable network to Vodafone in multiple countries. So perhaps selling their Irish network to either Siro or Vodafone is possible or perhaps some sort of merger. But then if that happened, I'd suspect Siro would stop rolling out FTTH in the cities and just use the cable network instead.
On the other hand, I've heard that VM's network is capable of speeds exceeding 1Gbit, but their focus is on upgrading older/legacy areas to be able to reach the speeds they currently offer.

Most of that work should be done by now. Focusing on upgrading older areas certainly made sense when your only competition was upto 100mb/s VDSL. But now with FTTH being rolled out, they absolutely have to match that or start losing customers to Eir/Siro.

    Maybe this isn't happening!!

Was talking to the VM tech a few weeks back. My modem died and he had to replace it. Long story boring, he said they are upgrading areas one by one, mine had been upgraded a few months back, but wouldn't roll out the service till all were upgraded. Given the current situation, it might be delayed. He also said the area had gone from 500mb to 1.2gb, so bit of overage on each connection.
