Skoda trim levels - 171/ 172

I'm looking at some Octavias - 171 and 172, both Style spec.
I can't seem to find definitive info on the trim levels.
The website shows the latest version, which would be the 172(ish) facelifted version, but I'm not sure if the non-facelift 171 version would have the same trim? I know the 172 will have the better infotainment system, but would there be other differences?

Edited to add some more info - the 172 is slightly lower in miles, is the facelift version, but is 1k more.

    From buzz.ie
The new Octavia will continue with the same trimline structure of Active, Ambition and Style specification levels with the Ambition model gaining new LED taillights, electric folding mirrors and a new reversing camera now as standard. The top Style trimline will now benefit from a new front grill and chrome detailing in addition to the impressive 9.2” Columbus Navigation & Infotainment system which comes as standard on the Style model.

The new Octavia comes with an abundance of Connectivity features as standard such as Smartlink+. This smartphone integration system containing Apple Car Play and Google Android Auto is now available as standard from the Ambition trimline. The Columbus Navigation & Infotainment system which is standard on the Style trimline also comes with an additional 4G LTE SIM card slot to enable a high speed Wi-Fi hotspot within the car (data plans sold separately) and a host of additional connected services from ŠKODA Connect. ŠKODA Connect: Mobile Online Services offers enhanced real time route planning, real time parking and petrol prices in the locality, customisable newsfeed, weather, customisable points of interest, in addition to other online services.

Cheers for that Colm, looks like the 171 Style would just be missing the new grill, chrome and Columbus system. Not sure that would be enough to justify the extra grand.

I have the older Amundsen nav system and wish I had CarPlay and the bigger screen. I still have Bluetooth streaming but Spotify would be much better to use with Carplay, and Google maps or even Apple maps would be preferable to the built in version.

I think the facelift is horrible though.

Ah, didn't realise the 171 wouldn't have CarPlay as standard, that's a real shame. Was in a mate's older Octavia and he did have it so assumed it was standard - guess he paid extra or got it activated another way?

Here is shows it's supported from 2016 on: https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/available-models/

Maybe it was, mine is 2015 and doesn’t have it. It may depend on which system is fitted, not sure what would be on a Style model. I’ll gave a look on Carzone and see how a 171 compares

Will have a closer look at this tomorrow and will make sure to check this out.
Am looking at a 1.0 115 with DSG gearbox, hopefully it'll be good. Thanks for the help!

Ya, came out on the 152. I had a 151 too and it annoyed me that I couldn't get it

Android and apple were pretty standard from 2016 onwards. My 171 octavia ambition has it.

Your only factor with the 172 is the contentious lights. Can't stand them myself.

Not a fan either, but I do like the bigger screen/ system. Also I think resale would be slightly better on it, but not 1000e better.

Had a look at the car today and ended up buying it - looking forward to getting it some time next week!
Had some unexpected extras too - beige leather, keyless entry, front and back parking sensors. I viewed one of the facelifted ones too and I don't think the upgraded radio is worth the extra.

Good stuff. What colour did you get?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭fjon

Pretty much looks like this. Has some unique alloys I haven't seen before either so looks a bit different to most of the white/ grey / silver ones that were on offer.

Same colour as mine. Race Blue.

It's one of the nicer ones. It's not the most exciting looking car in the other colours but this one makes it's a bit more pleasing to the eye. I'm sure I'll get many years of driving out of it.

    What engine is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭fjon

1.0 TSI DSG. Adequate for my needs, and peppier than I was expecting given the size of the engine. First time owning an automatic too, but it makes sense for the commute I make.

Sounds like a lovely spec. Well wear. Throw up some pictures when you get it.

That 1.0 tsi is a cracking engine

Took an interior pic when doing the test drive, will take an outside one when I take delivery - hope it doesn't take too long!

Wouldn’t be mad about the light coloured dash, but I’ve been in a taxi with those seats and they’re very comfy. Flat bottommed steering wheel is lovely too.

Been driving it for a few days and am really enjoying it. It's a huge upgrade on my previous 2008 car! Getting used to all the toys and gadgets. The keyless entry and it being an automatic are the biggest changes, but there's loads to play around with on the screen as well. Overall very happy
