    If I quit as opposed to being fired can I sign on?

    Assuming all stamps are paid.

    is there not a waiting period though?

    AFAIK you cant sign on straight away, its like 6-8 weeks or something. A disincentive for people to just quit to sign on the dole, so makes sense.

    Depending on what you work as.ive left jobs before and just said I was let go due to business being slow and they never check with employer. I got sorted within a week.

    There is. You'll have to give a reason and depending on that they set the period up to nine weeks

    Thats not really the question though is it - by the rules you shouldnt be able to just quit and sign on straight away. Whether they check or not is another story.

    Anyway, quick google and here's the answer;
    If you leave work voluntarily or as a result of misconduct, you cannot get a jobseeker’s payment for 9 weeks. However, if you have ‘good cause’ to leave voluntarily, for example, any changes in working conditions such as a reduction in pay, harassment or abuse from your employer, you may get your payment. The Deciding Officer in your local Intreo Centre or Social Welfare Branch Office will decide whether you had good cause to leave voluntarily.

    If you leave a call centre are they a bit more lenient with the 9week disqualification?

    Like if you say you were completely burned out etc and want to return to a more active job etc and you're available for work straight away?
