Memory stick to aux

Hi, I purchased cable which can be connected to a usb/memory stick with Mp3 files and connected to the aux of my car but when I switch to aux on the car radio nothing happens. Would you have any idea what might be wrong? If I connect my phone or ipod to the aux they play music through the stereo no problem. The car is a 2014 mondeo. The memory stick worked fine on my previous car a 12 ford focus

Wait, doesn’t your Mondeo have a USB port? What’s the cable for then?

No, there's no USB port only an aux in the centre armrest pocket

First check that the USB stick with your mp3s works by plugging it into a laptop or alternate device. If the USB stick is fine, the problem is with the adaptor you bought, as you have already confirmed that the aux in is working.

Yeah the USB worked fine in the previous car so I'm guessing it's the adapter (3 quid off ebay :-) any recommendations for one that can be purchased in Ireland? OR can a usb be installed on the radio?

    How is the USB powered?

I’ve never seen the cable you’re talking about. You’re saying you have a USB stick that has an adaptor that turns it into a 3.5mm headphone socket?

How does the USB get power? How do you skip tracks etc?

Wondering if car phone warehouse would be a place to check?

Has that device ever successfully worked for you?

It doesn’t make sense to me as a device unless it had its own power, read the files on the stick, convert them to audio, have a small amplifier to send the audio through the aux in, and have some way of controlling tracks etc.

That just looks like a lead, but you can’t just convert usb to audio with a cable.

I get what you're asking about the power now -:-l
No clue, on the focus I just plugged in the USB pressed aux and it played, skip etc was by the radio (can't remember the button). The radio even displayed the track name etc

Yep, that’s what it’s designed to do.

The cable you bought isn’t for converting audio.

What you need is a basic MP3 player with a headphone jack. Alternatively you can burn cds in mp3 format and your CD player will play them, you’ll get a good few albums on a disc in mp3 format.

You’re 100% certain your car hasn’t a USB port though? I think it’s in the glovebox if fitted. (Edit, quick google says later ones were in armrest)

    :-) Comer witchcraft.
see the USB plugged in the focus and worked perfectly.
bought the mondeo and discovered there's Bluetooth but can't stream music from the phone so looked for a USB port but there was only an aux, googled and found that cable/adapter which doesn't work. Me heads wrecked

I just (foolishly) assumed seeing as the 14 mondeo had Bluetooth I could stream the phone and worse case scenario as the 12 focus had the USB port the mondeo would have one. Told ya I'm a novice

But they're playing audio out through the headphone socket. Does the ICE have any model number etc. on it or maybe even the words MP3.

Still sounds like you need a new stereo rather than a cheap cable
1.Not all the car with this interface can use this kind of cable. Some car AUX without decoding function,so can only use MP3 device,(only car AUX interface have the function of read U disk can use this kind of cable)
2.When using, U disk had better not store too much, specific to the car AUX can support how much capacity.U disk can not have other documents inside and do not establish folder.MP3 format music is used.

No, but that version of the Mondeo came out in 2007, before Bluetooth streaming and USB ports were commonplace.
The mk3 Focus was launched a few years after this, which is why it was more up to date, despite being a smaller car with an older reg number.

Afaik it doesn't support MP3 format so you'd need an MP3 player linked via the headphone jack.

    Try
    https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/my-vehicle/download-your-manual

And see if they cover the player instructions
