If a door cable goes do you have to get a whole new lock?

    Internal door handle?

Usually the cable is the culprit... as it is attached to the door actuator (lock) and one of a few things can happen...

    1. The cable snapped (or the hooks either end of it have broke free from the wire).

    2. The plastic grommet that latches onto the inner handle breaks - preventing cable tension, so it feels broken/snapped.

    3. The receiving end (on the door lock mechanism itself) has broke {unlikely} - in which case a new lock would probably be needed.

I'm not a mechanic - but have fixed my fair share of door problems... It's usually a quick fix.

Thanks Hooked. Quoted €320 to fix.

 to fix what exactly? what car/year?

Seems a mad price if it's just door cable related? I replaced the full actuator *(the locking mechanism inside the door) on my van and the part cost 25 sterling NEW...

Although this could be a modern car, with electrical components - but you originally said door "cable"?
