single vent on percolation pipe?

In a percolation are of a biocycle system, is it ok to replace vents on both ends of a percolation pipe with a single vent that is connected to both ends?

See Figure 7.1 and Table 7.3 here. Vents are recommended at the end of each pipe for venting, rodding and scouting purposes. In reality, they are very impractical and if installed, are often eaten up by the lawnmower.

Resurrecting an old one here. Thinking of adding a vent at the biocycle in the garden to stop smells coming back up the drains to the house.
Would a 40mm pipe be enough to vent or do you reckon I'd need an actual soil pipe?
