A problem shared is a problem doubled?

First of all, people always judge others, even if they themselves don't realise it. People will often expect a favor back. People gossip too... and it may only be a certain amount of time before you and the person you've shared you're problem with end up falling out with you.

Another thing is, the next time you see the person you've shared your problem with acting the idiot, you probably won't have the nerve to knock them into line. Such people are not forced to really think about how their thoughts might be perceived from a different point of view, and what can happen is they get a false conclusion. Also, more often than not people won't really understand where you're coming from anyway. You won't realise this at first, but when you do later on, you will find it annoying.

I'm guessing what can happen to some people, is that they expect the person they talk about their difficulty to, to care... and when they don't get the reaction they expect, it hurts them.

Lately there's this idea that if you keep all your problems to yourself that some day you won't be able to take the pressure any more and you'll go and kill yourself. But I think you learn a lot about self control in making sure you don't talk about what's bothering you. I think it's best face up and realise that with most things there is no easy way out.

People, stop being mean to the OP.

Now, would somebody please tell me what that is actually about and if it's something one should be concerned about.

Empty glass outlook on life there Op.

It's actually stronger for people to talk about their thoughts than bottling them up. Self control is not self repression. It's good to talk with someone you trust.

We're social beings when it comes to it. Isolation isn't the answer.

It’s an attempt at something or other without actually mentioning what the something or other actually is.

    This thread....

...is a pretty perfect example of the negativity, cynicism and bitterness that permeates through so much of boards.ie and other online fora. As a good friend advised, sometimes it’s good for us all to take a break from message boards and social media - a “digital detox” as it were.

OP you do have some valid points, but it IS better to talk to others about your worries and issues. No man is an island.

    Nope.

If you don’t have real meaningful relationships with other people, you’d be as well off keeping your mouth shut and figuring it out for yourself.

Too many people these days have no idea how to really connect with people in a way that is meaningful. And if it’s not really a strong relationship or friendship you have, all you do is upset the apple cart by burdening someone else with your crap. And they walk, because they’re as broken as the other person.

If you really are close to someone, speak with them. But don’t waste your own time if they really don’t and won’t care.

It’s a hard lesson to learn, but better to learn it early and develop some resilience and a strong character than to rely on others when they really aren’t that invested in you in the first place.

Well at least your post is addressing the matter seriously.
