Well, could you name them all? Have a go of the county towns of Ireland here on Sporcle Quiz. Let us know how you got on. Did any surprise you? Maybe a few in the North caught you off guard. The LondonDerry one threw me but other than that it was plain sailing. Let us know how you got on.

It's essentially the 'capital' of the county. Location for administrative offices, county councils and stuff like that, most often the largest town and commonly named after the county itself.

Got everything except Down (had tried Newry, Banbridge, Kilkeel, Newcastle, Bangor, Newtownards).

19/32. I haven't been around Ireland all that much, don't follow any football or know much about that sort of thing, and haven't been in the country for a decade.

It should have been 20/32, though. I was misspelling
    Port Laoise
    .

That's fair enough given that the county is spelled Laois with no 'e' at the end where as Portlaoise has got one.

Seems to be a bit of a Down syndrome on this quiz.

    Maybe spoiler that one?

I missed 9 out of the 32. Congrats to all of them on their sportsball win.

Yes!! Learned them all off by heart, for quizzes.

The USA, too. The States all have nicknames, always turning up in quizzes.

Do all the Irish counties have nicknames?

I know that Cork is "The Rebel county" but do they ALL have such a handle?

    Who knows those?

Would have done it but for the poor design of the page - very hard to read - and so the old 'life's too short' kicked in.

    Clare, (Ennis) The Banner County.

    Next?

Yeah, it's a pity so so so many quizzes are stuck on an ancient platform.

You shouldn't be able to repeatedly guess all the towns you know in a county.. Makes it a lot easier.

Got 30/32, missed Derry and Down, should have guessed Downpatrick (there is a racecourse there) but hadn't a clue Coleraine was the county town of Derry.

When did Lifford become the county town of Donegal?

Was Letterkenny when I was young.

Lifford (Irish: Leifear, historically anglicised as Liffer)[2] is the county town of County Donegal, Ireland. It is the administrative capital of the county and the seat of Donegal County Council, although the town of Letterkenny is often mistaken for fulfilling this role.

    32/32, handy.

Being from the north, and presuming a lot of county towns are the name as the county helped

    11 out of 32.

Lived in Ireland for less than 3 years, traveled to most counties. So I am happy with the result.
However the quiz is really bad on a smartphone.

In fairness there’s no counties in Northern Ireland any more, been districts for years, so we should be able to have a 100% for 26/26.

    Give me my badge.

I got 23/31, got all the N Ireland ones wrong.. well I got Belfast right but the website is wrong and not me. Didn’t know Enniskillen and Tullamore, guessed the town name was the same as the county on a few. For Louth I had Drogheda instead of Dundalk

I am not from ireland , I scored 56% only. I am from the Netherlands and have lived in dublin for over 2 years.

I have absolutely no idea about anything in Northern Ireland at all. I have only ever been to Belfast and that's it so.

    Now as for the others:

Kildare Naas - I thought Naas was in laois or something. Never been there. I would have thought Maynooth for Kildare.
Mayo Castlebar - Never heard of it, I thought westport.
Donegal Lifford - never heard of it. Why not donegal town?
Tipperary Clonmel - Never heard of it.
Westmeath Mullingar - Could have known that one I suppose.
Londonderry Coleraine - why not uhm... derry???
Kerry Tralee - I have heard of Tralee from 'Rose of Tralee', but I thought killarney was bigger? Never had any idea where Tralee actually is though.
Laois Portlaoise - I 100% knew this one, but the problem is that I had no idea how to spel 'portlaoise'. Why an -e?
Leitrim Carrick On Shannon - Absolutely never heard of either the county or the town or where it possibly could be.

Lifford and Strabane are much the same place really aren't they if you disregard the border?

Either sides of a bridge, over the Foyle. The east end is in Nth Ireland, (Strabane) the west side in Co Donegal (Lifford)

Letterkenny is much more substantial, you'd have to wonder if a sly political point is being made here.
