Just found a watch I had been looking for on eBay. Have never bided before. Is there a secret to it? Can I keep informed of different bids on it?

    Thanks

You can place a maximum bid, lets say €100, if the current bid is €20 ebay will bid €25 for you and if you get out bid you will automatically bid until the €100 is reached. You will get automatic notifications letting you know if you are outbid and then you can increase your max bid.

Yeah, you can see the bids. You will not see the full username but you will be able to tell how many different bidders there are.

Just be careful not to get caught up in the bidding some people bid more than the watch is worth just to "win"

I've often seen 2nd hand watches go for close to what they are new

A useful tip is to time your bid until five seconds before the auction ends. Obviously that's tricky if you are trying to do it yourself so there's a few sites which can do it for you automatically.

All these tricks and tips are pointless imo, I’ve been buying from ebay for over 20 years and the best thing to do is set your limit and stick on the bid with a few hours to go and hope for the best.
Sniper tools like that one linked were good years ago but eBay bid up in increments now so it’s pointless

Yeah, in the few I won that makes sense. Just put in the max you're willing to spend and hopefully it goes under the radar and you win. Check the amount of people watching. I got a good deal on a watch a while ago and actually messaged them to see if they were ok with the price after I won :pac:

The only sane tactic on eBay imho. Just go away for around the time the auction ends and find out later if you won it or not. Frantic bidding just before the auction end will most of the time just give you a Pyrrhic victory...

Many thanks for the replies. Set my limit and that's that. Was surprised that it went from 28 to 80 sterling in one bid. Would that be normal enough?
