Loud fuel pump?

Well lads. I have a 07 opel vectra 1.8 petrol. I've noticed in the last few days that the fuel pump has gotten very loud. Not the usual sound of it priming on the turn of the ignition. If I'm sitting in the car with the radio off I can clearly hear it behind me whirring loudly. If I remove the back seats and put on my hand on the cover itself I can feel vibrations. Fuel pump on its way out? Better to change it ASAP in case it dies and leaves me stranded? Cheers.

if its never been changed, given the age, then your right its likely the change is sound is sign its nearing the end, or the check valve might have given up, but best to replace. if it does strand you, few taps on the top sometimes will get it going again.

That sound is a warning that the pump is close to packing it in. It would be rare for it to stop completely when the car is driving, but if you leave it too much longer you might find it will refuse to start on a cold morning because the fuel pump can't supply the engine with enough fuel.

Id be changing that ASAP. There is every chance it will stop on the road and leave you stranded.

I was right to be suspicious. Went today. Was at tesco and car wouldn't start afterwards. Couldn't hear pump at all. Ah well. The security guards said it's OK to leave the car there until tomorrow. I'll sort it tomorrow. At least it didn't go out on the main road at the lights or something.
