MHRV condensate drain connected to radon gas vent

Evening, I had my MHRV installed in October.

I was up in the attic today and noticed that the installer has connected the condensate drain to the radon gas vent.

I’m absolutely livid. This should be connected to a foul water drain as per installation instructions.

I presume this has been circulating the air or at least some air from the radon sump into the house.

This is beyond irresponsible. What should my course of action be here?

Was this a self build, main contractor, or retro-fit?

Ie who is the contract between and who is responsible..

It was a self build, direct labour. I know I should have checked the install directly after it was done, have had a lot going on and was distracted.

Should I be alerting an agency / body that this happened. The installler has possibly done this before and is still doing it.

As a self-builder, You are effectively the ‘main contractor/builder’. The contract is between you and the installer. The onus is on you to comply with building regs. The onus is on you to check that the installer completed his work.the buck stops with you. If you paid tax/vat in the work or had a contract with the sub-contractor you should read this https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/consumer_affairs/consumer_protection/consumer_rights/your_rights_when_you_buy_a_service.html

Start by engaging the sub-contractor and asking them to fix the problem. It may simply have been a mistake. The joys of self-building. Beat of luck. Please let us know how you get on.

Is it clearly marked that it is a radon vent?

Did you tell them that it is a radon vent?

They had drawings. They never asked what it was or if it could be used as a drain.
