Hi all, a friend purchased a Japanese import, car is fine but there's no tax on it and he can't get it's nct until testing resumes.
As there's no logbook and car was purchased from a reputable dealer, what's the process in getting the logbook and tax on car etc.
    The salesman was unclear apparently.
    Thanks all.

Tax online at motortax.ie the PIN is the last 6 digits of the VIN, it's the same process for all newly registered vehicles you don't get the VLC till you tax it. Not a very reputable business if they don't know the process for getting tax on the vehicles they sell.

Last 6 digits only works if it’s never been taxed before.

    Thanks folks.
    Never taxed here before.
Dealer said it needed be taxed before log book comes out but when he tried tax it online he said it's registered with the garage or something.
Excuse the detail as it's secondary information and trying to help a mate

You should know by logging into motortax.ie

Put the reg number into cartell.ie - it shouldn’t come up if it’s never been taxed.

It doesn’t sound like the seller was the garage that registered the car.

Was the car actually registered here already before you bought it?

^^^It's "a friend" that bought it apparently.

And OP, he can book it in for an NCT now....just no guarantee that the 'lift' part of the test will be done.

    Yes registered here before purchase.

Sorry for the late replies folks. He's still awaiting to get it registered in his name when I spoke with him yesterday.
He'll be giving the car back soon if there's much more grief involved.
