    2. Mapping...would you recommend remapping high milleage car?

Had that engine in 320cd with over 305000 miles bought at around 190000 miles in that 115000 miles no engine trouble just water pump and the the bushes in alternator and would be still on road but tax insurance just too dear
    (That was 150bhp one)

Be no harm to change the turbo filter/breather every so often too although your one will be the later vortex style one which is much less prone to clogging. Could always get the swirl flaps removed for piece of mind as well, they're a better design on your particular engine compared to the early ones but they wear nonetheless and if they fail they'll take the engine with them.

I've a rusty 03 e46 320d with 190k miles on it. Turbo, injectors and clutch all in it since new and still going fine.

Regular oil changes is the key. The engine and gearbox are both solid reliable overengineered units well capable of 500,000+km.

My son had a 520 with the M47 engine.
got swirl flaps removed, egr delete, dpf removed.
    and mapped.
Can't remember the mileage but it was over 120k miles
Due to age/mileage it was down a few horses from new.
Pre work was around 152bhp/230lb ft torque
after it was 199.6bhp/300 lbft torque.
Made a huge difference to it.
