Do I need a new tap?

Question for any knowledgeable folk out there.

My kitchen tap, something like the one in the link, was squirting water off to one side and I assumed it was dirty or scaled.

I was scrubbing it with a brush and about 5 little circles of mesh fell out, so there is now nothing to restrict the flow and it comes out at a ferocious speed.

Is it possible to buy replacement mesh to go up into the tap, or do I need to replace the whole unit?

    Hi

I assume the mesh fell out of the aerator or flow straightener (attached). This is in the spout.

If so, you can do a few things:

    1. Put the mesh back in if you still have it. Would need to see an image to know if this is possible.
    2. Get a replacement aerator/flow straightener - These can be screwed out of the tap (there should be flats as in the attached) and replaced. You would just need to measure the thread and buy another one with the same thread. They are readily available.
    3. Get a replacement tap. We can help with the same tap:

    Hope this helps.

    Steve

    Many thanks for the reply.

No, the little bits of mesh came out in about 5 or 6 layers, and I just assumed they were hammered so binned them.

When I posted, I didn't realise that you can screw the tap bit off! I looked at it and it looked like one solid moulded piece of metal.
It was when I checked YouTube, I seen a video showing it getting screwed off. Don't think mine has flats.

So I will get a loo at it over the weekend. If my local hardware store doesn't do a replacement end bit, I'll get one ordered.

    Thanks again.
