    Hi all,

I am struggling to find a insulation contractor, I need my internal walls insulated and the attic I have rang a few companies with decent reviews but they have failed to get back. Does someone have a recommendation maybe from a recent project they want to share?

I am located in greater Dublin.

    Thanks

    Stating your location might help.

Have you checked the SEI website for a list of approved contractors in your area?

Why do you need internal walls insulated?

    Internal external to outside.

Yeah, I get that, but why do you "need" them insulated? Have you had a heat loss survey done?

No but the walls are freezing to touch, the house will drop to about 6 to 8c in the morning. I have a plasterer wanting to install 50mm insulated boards, so I need a survey done before he starts?

What are you looking to get done to the walls?

You might need 2 different contractor, 1 that does Wool/PIR insulation in attics and one that pumps walls for example.

I am getting 50mm kingspan isulated dry lining plasterboard installed by a plasterer. The attic insulation will be done at a later stage after rewiring has been completed.

Just to settle expectations. Because I've seen it in the past. The 50mm will be grand but without the attic done at the same time you won't notice a large difference.

So be clear about what you expect it to be like once the walls are done. I know your waiting on rewire and that's a smart choice to delay but be clear on what the wall can do.

Op, hope you don’t mind me hijacking, but I really want to figure out how I will make my house warmer.

House is over 20 years old, semi d bungalow with original windows, aluminum frames. Original attic insulation.

I’m thinking window replacement and attic insulation will be enough, and hopefully not need to insulate any walls? Walls are baton with wool insulation and plastered.

Main issue I am worried about is damp. Now the house isn't damp there is no condensation on the walls the humidity level is never above 50% and usually is 30% when I have the heating on so I don't believe this will be an issue but still I am concerned as the walls are as cold a block of ice I don't want moisture condensating behind the insulation after install.

The attic will be done after the rewire as the electrician is up there at the minute pulling cables so it would be pointless.

A thermal camera would show heat escaping if you are worried you are loosing heat through the walls I'd imagine I didn't do this as I know this is happening as to how cold my walls are.

Condensation will happen anyway it's a matter of where.

If you don't have adequate ventilation the condensation finds the next coldest spot it can get to. Ceilings windows floors whatever. It's actually a fine balance. People often think by throwing insulation in they are golden but they leave no where for moisture to escape. Needs air exchange.

It is people's ignorance why damp occurs; I was talking too a family member recently about their damp problems, but they fail to see why they need to use the extractor fan while cooking or taking a shower.

I will get an airvent in each room and buy humidity montiors for about the house.

I am also looking into this in Clare. I have a timber frame home, would like to do the internal walls on the outside. I believe the Rockwool in there is not enough and the insulated slab would make a huge improvement. I already have the energlaze glass installed and attic is thickly insulated.
Insulated slab what i have in my recent attic conversion and its the warmest room in the house.
Moving wardrobes and radiators beforehand might be the hard bit, and getting a plaster to turn up when needed.

    Worth it?

Well, my whole kitchen has to come out, the rads have to come off, any fitted units to the walls wardrobes etc it is a big job.
