    Hi,

This is a bit of a strange one.
Just before xmas we received a Vehicle regsitration cert to our home addressed to a "John Smith".
We did not buy a new car also there is no one in our home called John Smith.
We marked the envelope not at this address and dropped it into the post office.
Since then we have received a second Vehicle Registration cert and 2 eflow letters all addressed to "John Smith".
Yesterday there was also a registered letter notification sent to us for "John Smith".
All letters have been returned with not at this address to the senders.

Obviously we are assuming there is something untoward going on. Anyone had something similar and what did you do? or what was the outcome?

It's very possible that someone gave your address as a fake address when buying they bought a car so that the registration cannot be traced back to them. Seems to be becoming a more common thing these days for people trying to avoid paying tolls, traffic fines, etc or worse criminal activity involving the car. Maybe contact Shannon or your local motor tax office and see if they can note it on their system.

I feel sorry for all those people out there who genuinely are named John Smith.

+1 in the days when B&B and owner-operated hotels (think Basil Fawlty) implemented strict moral standards in their establishments, a couple booked in as 'Mr. and Mrs. John Smith' routinely expected raised eyebrows when they checked in.
