    Hi guys,

Recently been unfortunate to find myself let go from my job. Just a quick question in relation to rate of SW I may be entitled to? The office themselves were not very helpful.

Been working straight since May 2017, had to sign on for 1 month in 2018 due to downtime at work. I'm married, wife is working on salary of about 30k.

Is it likely they will give me nothing due to her working? We are home owners, no savings as such and as you can imagine I am actively seeking work. Only let go last week.

Any advice on how its calculated would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

You would be entitled to jobseekers benefit. Call into your nearest intreo office.
Jobseekers benefit is based on your stamps, full rate is around €203, if your wages were over 300 weekly.

Sorry to hear about your job loss.

Basically your rate of jobseekers benefit depends on how much you were getting paid in work each week. If you were earning 300 plus a week, you should be entitled to the full 203 euros. You should be ok for PRSI contributions if you have been working full time for the few years. You need 104 credits since you first started work and also 39 from relevent year (which would be 2018 in this case.) It should be backdated to three days after your last day of employment. Also get into the welfare office soon as.

I doubt you'd be entitled to jobseekers allowance but the means test would depend on your outgoings too. You can move some of your tax credits over to you wife online now on revenues website I believe.

Really appreciate the replies. Im gutted. Will go into office today. My only issue is im still due 1 weeks payment from them which comes as part of monthly salary paid on 20th of next month.

As im still due to be paid, does this technically mean I cannot make SW claim until next month? No idea how it works to be honest.

No you should be paid from 3days after the date you last worked. There are 3 waiting days and your paid from 4th day(Sundays are not included)

So if you last day of work was Friday you should be paid from Wednesday. Although will be next week when that payment is due

I left my old job before the new year and made a claim the first week of January. I'm still waiting on my old employer to fill out a form for my claim to proceed. I think I might have a new job lined up in the next week or two but I'm reluctant to commit to this as I may lose out on 600+ euro. Does anyone know if I took the job whether I'd still be able to proceed and claim for the time spent off work? Thanks a mil

go ahead and take the job and if your jsb claim is approved you’ll get whatever you were owed.
If you left your last job then it’s unlikely you will be approved without a 9 week penalty.

I did the means test for Jobseekers allowance recently and I dont recall anything about outgoings at all apart from one thing which was the mortgage payment. Maybe im wrong but they didnt ask me anything about any other outgoings at all at all. They were only interested in income sources solely.

The means test for Jobseekers doesn’t take any outgoings into account

The means test isn’t going to take your mortgage into account either.

Hi Splinter, I wonder why they wanted my mortgage statement and statement of interest paid. They said depending on my Mortgage Interest payments It may affect my JSA entitlements. She specifically mentioned the "mortgage interest rate" and needed a printout of my interest paid statement from my bank which I had to request. I didnt really understand to be honest thou:confused:

I have a letter from my employer stating I was employed on a temp basis between Dec and January and i'm no longer employed. This is all they provided me with.

Is this sufficient, or will they require I go back to employer and get their own form filled out? I know my old employer takes an eternity with these things as they are big organisation.

SW will send a form to your last employer for him/her to complete.

Hi Splinter sorry for delay answering yes I told them I was availing of the Rent a Room scheme so they took this into account when doing my means!;) I gave them all the income details from the lodgers. Interestingly they wanted their full names Which I did give. I hope they dont go interviewing my lodgers as I kinda didnt tell them I was currently unemployed:confused::o was a tad embarresed to be the only one not working of us all

    (e) Property partly occupied by the claimant.

Any cash income from letting out a portion of a house that is not personally used or enjoyed is assessable against the claimant as income. For example, a room might be rented on a seasonal basis to students, ‘Air B n B’ customers, or for use as a business office.

If a portion of the house is being let or is being used for business purposes the following deductions from profits can apply to establish the net income for inclusion in the means assessment. Deductions from profits should be allowed in respect of ground rent and mortgage interest (not the full amount of the loan repayment) in proportion to the area used for business purposes. If rooms are let furnished, 5% of the gross amount received is allowed for wear and tear and 15% of the gross receipts may be allowed for voids (i.e. periods when the accommodation is vacant between lettings).

They will hold the income you get from renting the room against you in the means test but will consider the interest you pay on your mortgage against that, if you follow me.
