E-Flow toll tag issue Ford Focus

So I recently bought a 15 Ford Focus that has one of those window heaters in the middle on the front window. As a result, its impossible to get my toll tag in the centre of the window and it has to go to the side a bit.

When I first put it on, it was just about inside the black dotted area.
It worked 10/10 times on the M50.
However, on the M3, it works 10/10 times when I'm going from Dublin to Navan in the express lane.
But only 2/10 times when im going from Navan to Dublin in the express lane.
I'd say its an 8/10 success rate when I go to the main barriers.

I recently ordered a new holder and moved it a bit further up inside the black dotted area, but still on the right side a bit. Same issues are occurring.

Is there anything I can do?

It shouldn't be under any shaded areas of the windscreen. I've a '12 Focus and put it in front of where my visor flips down.

Ah ok, I always assumed it needed to be as central as possible.
    I will try that.

Incorrect, the shaded (dotted) area is exactly where it should be located. It doesn’t need to be centered to the window OP.

The pamphlet that comes with it states otherwise. Why would you put it, where line of sight with the scanner is obscured?

    relevant content at 00:50.

With my 2007 207 which has one of these screens, the tag wouldn't work until it was mounted on the dotted area behind the rear view mirror

This is bad service from the toll gate operators as much as anything else. The tag can be read a 100Kmh on the M50 from a gantry several metres over the car, but the M3 can't read it at 60Kmh when the gantry is less than a metre from the car, even though their other lane reads it fine.

I have a feeling the M3 toll is causing issues for others too. It does for me.

Can't use the express lane in either direction. 90% of the time I have to hand my token in.

Works on all other toll plazas.

I have heard complaints about the M3 toll before but it was always fine for me in my last car. Got a new car last October and thats when the issues started.
I assume it doesn't like the position of the tag...

Its frustrating though. Now i keep a bag of coins in the car for when it doesn't work.

It doesn't, it states to put it on the shaded dotted area. It doesn't work on line of sight, so that's irrelevent.

Brief update on this, tag beeped tonight in express lane and barrier then came down anyways!
Tried to stop but not enough time.
    Was below speed limit.

    Did you hit the barrier?

Could be a faulty tag also. I've never had issues with mine whether I have it in the corner of the windscreen or the shaded area. Heck sometimes I've had it in the cup holder while waiting for a new tag holder and it worked fine.

Yep. It beeped and light was green. I was going 49. 2 vans in front. A few metres away it suddenly turned red. The barrier started coming down and I hit the brake. Couldn’t stop in time and broke it.

I was in shock and had no idea what to do.

Left them a voicemail and email with my details and the details of what had occurred.

Wow, I'm always eerie when going through with a car in front but I've never had it come down, that must be a malfunction with the barrier I'd say.

How close where the van's in front? IIRC there's a scam where non tag holders go slow in the express lane hoping a following vehicle with a tag will get close enough to let them through the barrier and then the barrier stops the tag holder.

Nail on the head I reckon, I bet the van in front got through on your tag

To be honest, I can’t recall the specifics. On approach, the van was actually in the left lane and indicated right in ahead of me. So I was probably close enough to him.

I checked my eflow account and the payment was taken. So my tag beeped and I was charged. At the very least, it rules out anybody accusing me of wrong doing.

Pretty sure the camera captures your reg and matches it to the tag before opening the barrier? Shouldn't have opened when it read the vans reg because it would have been different to that registered to the tag.

A guy at work was going through the Limerick Tunnell toll with the wrong reg - out by one digit - for several months before the barriers wouldn’t lift anymore

Dang, the Waterford one usually works pretty well, the mother changed her car and forgot to update her reg on her tag and the barrier wouldn't lift until she did.

Guess it depends on the area/camera and if it works or not :D
