    Like the title says really.
I'm looking to buy a car from England to turn into a track weapon. It'll never see the road over here. Would I be liable for VRT so long as I keep it locked up in a a garage and it only see's track use on these shores?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

To the letter of the legislation unless you are a TAN holder you are required to declare the car and pay the VRT.

It may work differently in practice, but legally speaking you would not be compliant.

Cheap and cheerful, my pal and I are looking to get an MX5 to start out with.
Strip it, cage it, coilovers, a diff and some good tyres.
They're supposed to be a good car to cut your teeth with.

Rally cars are a different kettle of fish. Track day cars won't ever be on the road, and It's hard to see how they could be caught for not being VRTd.

Technically they and every other motor vehicle brought into the State need to be VRTd.

That's for the insurance. Question was how they get around the registration law?

    Trailer.

^^^^ Trailer, The stupid system in this country makes them a ball ache to register properly. For instance if your competing on an MSA event (N.I. or UK rally) You need valid road tax and MOT to pass scruitny... No tax or MOT you won't be on the road with it, down here is different. Only IRDS needed to start...

strictly all vehicles neeed to be VRTd. In practise, you won't have a problem provided it genuinely never sees the road. Take off the plates and sticker it up in some way to make it obvious.

Why would you VRT it if it is never going to be driven on a public road??

    Trailer.

How do they get the car between the stages on closed roads?

I was replying to a reply about rally cars. Loads of them driven by Irish residents with the wrong plates on them.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

AFAIK if a car will *never* be used on a public road it does not have to be registered (and VRT'ed).

    Open to correction though.
