FTTH: Post install visit from Open Eir?

We had our FTTH install completed recently (by KN, ordered via Digiweb).

Today, someone who identified himself as being from 'Eir' (Open Eir, Eir wholesale I guess?) called to the house - he had my name, so would seem legit. He had ID etc, (this is 2nd hand, I'm not at home). He said he was there to review the install and wanted to see the boxes on the wall etc. where the install was done in the house. (turns out he wasn't happy about some things, reckons he'll be sending someone out again)

This was quite an unexpected for us, and a somewhat unusual visit from my perspective.

    Is this standard practice?
Should Digiweb have told us this would be happening?

    Thanks!

I believe this is normal for the ISP (DigiWeb/Eir) to come out and check the work of the contractor (KN) is completed to standard but I would have expected DigiWeb to advise the date of this.

It's an open eir thing; it's nothing to do with the retail ISP (who are not informed about it). A sample of installs are inspected after the fact by open eir to make sure that KN are keeping up to the specified standard of installation.

He should have identified himself as being from open eir. I'd be quite cross if I was Digiweb and someone claiming to be from "eir" showed up to inspect the installation.

Thanks for this. I wasn't home, so I was getting it 2nd hand from my wife. He did identify himself and had ID, so I assume it said he's from OpenEir. I'm just surprised that there isn't any advance communication on this, when someone rocks up and expects you to let them into your house.

I just spoke to Digiweb and, as you say, they didn't know anything about it.

Yes there really should be contact prior to them arriving at your door.
At the same time you would be perfectly entitled to turn them away.

OE need to do them regularly because KN act the monkey regularly.

When we had our FTTH install done the KN engineer took pictures of the install and said they have to provide them for each install so this would tally with that.
