    Hi All,

My misses is a blue badge holder and doesn't pay road tax.

She was told years ago that if she was buying a new car (new to her not brand new) she would not have to pay tax/ be able to claim it back after purchase.

Does anyone know how this works if I'll be financing the car for her. She doesn't work and won't be able to apply for the finance, So I will.

The car is from a dealer and around €15k

Am we still able to claim the tax back?

I know some dealerships will use this tax back as the deposit etc.

    Any help would be great.

Does the car require any conversion work?

    https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/transport_and_disability/tax_relief_for_disabled_drivers_and_disabled_passengers.html

The Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers Scheme provides a range of tax reliefs linked to the purchase and use of specially constructed or adapted vehicles by drivers and passengers with a disability.

    Thats not really the question.

If your misses is your wife then I would imagine your money is her money in terms of buying a car.

Is the car registered in Ireland yet, like is it an import, or are you trying to claim the residual VRT on an already registered Irish car?

We are not married. We live together and have for about 10 years.. we have a child as well.

The car will be second hand.. as for already being registered in Ireland I would say most will.. small few may be UK imports... but I've no way of knowing this until we actually go to view/buy a car.

I thought (maybe i'm wrong) that you could still claim something back even if the car was registered in Ireland. Like a 2015 second hand car being sold by a dealer - I know you couldn't claim if back if you are buying privately.

I've tired to contact the Disabled Drivers Association of Ireland. But they haven't got back to me and I've emailed/messaged them a few times.

You do. Ye get the revenue calculated residual vrt that's left on the car which you are buying. Contact revenue.

That's for a car which is already registered here.
If you're importing you don't pay VRT.
