Ryanair pricing

Hi all. Just a quick question regarding Ryanair fares. My wife and I are looking to book flights to travel in September. We booked the same flights last year around the first week of January (travelling in September) but this year the same flights are just over 200 euro dearer as of this week ( they have been creeping up in the last two weeks).Colleague's have told me to hang on for another few months, that the price will inevitably come down but I'm not sure. I was of the belief that their fares increase as the seats are filling. What are your experiences of this generally? Should I bite the bullet now or be patient?

Maybe try airhint website which I have found to be quite good. Problem is that if it's a popular route and fares are selling you may not see a drop.

The skyscanner app has a fare predictor tool which is helpful.

Booking early with Ryanair doesn't always pay off BTW...

Thanks folks. The airhint website as recommended above, is giving an 85% chance the fare will fall......

I also have a bit of faith in airhint as regards Ryanair, booked flights for September 2020 late December, airhint said only 5% chance of a price drop so booked at €75 approx per person from memory for Fuerteventura
If I were you & a little flexible, I'd hold off, set up an alert or check every day, a lot of people book flights in January so demand & therefore prices will be high, I'd say prices will drop

I was tracking prices for July 2019 & some days there were up to three price changes so you have to have a bit of nerve

Do dummy bookings & see how many seats are available for you to choose to purchase, bar a few solo travelers, most couples & families will purchase seats inorder to sit together, I'd say

If you are in any way flexible with your dates I would say definitely hold off for now as September, while not fully off season, is after schools go back so flights should be significantly cheaper then summer. Track a range of dates with Google flights and keep an eye on them. I've never flown from Shannon and I suspect they may be more expensive than Dublin by default because of less competition but Ryanair flights fluctuate wildly particularly outside the summer season so I wouldn't say you need to rush into it if the prices are ridiculous compared to what you've had in the past.

Unless it's for peak dates, holidays, special etc - generally the further you book out, the cheaper it will be.

 With Ryanair, it's generally the opposite - for "nothing special" dates, the earlier you book, the more expensive it'll be. My experience is that the cheapest seats usually appear at around three months before the date of travel. On less popular routes or dates, you'll find significant reductions after this point cropping up in flash sales and other promotions.

Unless there is a sudden influx of bookings for your particular flights (unlikely if it's a random date with no holidays or events around it), I'd wait...

We were keeping an eye on flights to lanzarote. Ryanair flights were approx €80 each way 2 months ago, airhint said hold. Later the price increased up to €140 each way. Bought tickets the other day for €70 each, 4 months before tje flights. I would recommend to hold, but im not gonna lie, i was shi**ng my pants watching the price going up and up

All it takes is a wedding or party and you could have 20 seats gone in one go.

If I wasn't that bothered whether I got to go or not, I would take the risk. Otherwise, I'd book once I got a price i was happy with.

I’ve often noticed with Ryanair too that say for a 7/14 night trip the outbound flight would be a good price & the inbound very expensive or vice versa, so I’ve purchased the cheaper leg & then waited for the other flight to drop to what I’m happy with so I then only have to track one flight

Thanks for all the replies and advice everyone. Yep we will be patient for another few months. I've signed up to airhint so I'll be getting updates from that site too.

I enjoy playing the Ryanair game. 90% of the time I get it right.

This year I have booked one leg of a journey because the price was great. The return part of the journey not so good. My return price was €39 (I got the outward one for €29) so I felt that I would wait and see if the return price would match the outward price. So far, not so good. My trip is in May. It has gone to €42, €49 and now it is €65. Other days around my return price have dropped to €29 and €27 and there is even a €24 in there. So my price is sticking at €65 it seems.

I will play the waiting game until mid April and hope it falls back. I think it will.

I am also chasing flights to Alicante for September. They are very expensive at the moment for my dates. So I will watch these on a daily basis and jump if they fall back.

I also purchased flights to Barcelona Reus. I paid about €30 for these, a good price. One of the legs is up at €80 now.

Prices to the Netherlands that I could have picked up at €25 are all now €31. Not a big difference, but with 4 flights a day to Amsterdam and with Aer Lingus also flying there I feel that these have a good chance of falling back.
