Has anyone looked into this recently and found for example a 150g saddle for around the 60-70 euro mark ?

Visible from space but fits the bill

I have a Prologo Dimension Nack that I picked up on eBay for €75 before Christmas. It’s 161g. They’re a lot more expensive to buy new but appear on eBay now and then.

The tirox versioning the Dimension which you can get on eBay for around €50 (used but usually in mint condition) weighs bang on 180g which is pretty lightweight for a saddle.

    To answer my own question

    https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/SASMMAROS/san-marco-mantra-racing-open-saddle

Its a little over 180g but value is good

I'd be inclined to give one of the asian sites a go, they're certainly light and well known to be one of the most copied brands. You can get a full carbon one if you're a real sadist.

    supposedly 114g for €19

Like the look of this but have never used aliexpress . Do people enter credit card details directly (presume they are the Chinese equivalent of amazon) or use other payment methods ? I normally use paypal when possible

I've used it for years it's basically the chinese ebay they're all linked to some degree alibaba, wish etc. No option to use paypal unfortunately but the money sits in an escro and is only released to the seller once the item is received. To date I've never been stung where as on ebay I've been caught twice. It does come on the slow boat though so will take about 4 weeks to arrive. I usually order a load of small bits together the post man hates me :D

Lidl have some very nice saddles at some point early in the year, don't know what month though.

Maybe somebody can remember when they usually arrive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭harringtonp

Maybe nice and good but almost certainly you're talking 300+ grams weight. Not one for weight weenies

They're not nice saddles, they boat anchors with about 6inchs of thick padding/gel. They are designed for town bikes that are ridden a few kms at most or kids bikes.

A lot of the time you can get them from U.K for a few quid more too if you didn’t fancy waiting .

I personally run one and have done all summer. It’s bare carbon but surprisingly comfy, haven’t rode for longer than 2 hours but I can’t see it being significantly any worse over a longer time. I think the comfort of these bare saddles is down to the shape suiting you really!

    98g FWIW.

If you want something with a bit of padding, a carbon Fizik (In whichever style suits you) would be around 180g I’d say and are pretty plentiful online

And 25 days later fresh with a dose of Corona virus:eek:.... Voila!!

Weighs absolutely nothing and build seems decent no massive flaws, a couple of runs in the clear underneath. It's extremely rigid very little flex at all but bought out of curiosity more than need/want.

I'm yet to try it out but I'm not a good test subject anyway as I get on with most saddles. I can see how it would be comfortable though as it's very slippery but certainly rock hard so a decent chamois is a definite I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,373 ✭✭✭iwillhtfu

I did notice the rails are oval as opposed to round I assume it won't make too much of a difference with a standard clamp once they're not overly tightened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,373 ✭✭✭iwillhtfu

Either end of the spectrum to test out and you don't realise how heavy the brooks is till you have the carbon seat in your hand.

Also has anyone any clue as to the relief cuts at the rear of the saddle? hardly weight saving :D

Have that exact design saddle, does take a bit of time to get used to it but if your constantly riding it you'll be accustomed to it fairly quick, only real issue I had was indeed the slipperyness of it, an old inner tube cut up and stuck on top did the job but eventually just ditched that when I adjusted my position which stopped most of the sliding about.

Headed out for 100km spin today and I have to say I didn't notice any discomfort at all. It was very slippery but I put the saddle slightly nose high and that fixed it. Not a terrible waste of money after all I'm pleasantly surprised. :D

So two months and 1182 zwift km/11636m of climbing later happy to report the saddle is holding up well. It's actually quite comfortable but I haven't had it out on the road other than my first 100km pre lock down spin so can't comment on the road buzz. To be fair you do a lot of sitting on the turbo and no complaints at all.

Well worth the price imo and if you were playing the weight weenie game it weighs nothing at all, I have heavier socks.

ive been using one of these for a few months, particularly a lot with zwift, seems to be holding tough and I am 16 stone at the moment so not a lightweight guy. bought another to go on a chinese xc bike project i am building.

I've been using one of these Chinese copies for almost a year. Its actually comfortable. The cover is not the most durable - mine is torn a bit after hitting the tarmac. But that possible would have happened with an original too. Well worth the money.

Finally got around to ordering this about a week ago Glued my old broken saddle rail and it has been solid as a rock since so was a bit slow about ordering. Great price and weight and worthwhile having it in waiting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,939 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Ordered one as well. For €20 it will do a job and could surprise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭harringtonp

Mine arrived last Monday, weighed in at 101g on the scales. Not sure what the difference is with others shown here.

Used it for 90 mins Tuesday. It is harder and will take some getting used to , will be holding on to the old glued saddle just in case. Didn't notice any slippage issues but can see how it would occur if you're not set up properly

Both rails have become a little loose where they go into the plastic sleeves and there is a clicking/creaking sound at times when I pedal.

Haven't had it too long and in this case you get what you pay for comes to mind. I jokingly call myself a fat ass but its 79kg of fatass. Anyone else have a similar problem with this saddle ?

I'm back on the old glued saddle for now. Have poured super glue around the area where the rails go into the sleeves and will see if that helps

Nope mine has been perfect from the start and I'm 85kg

What's the plastic sleeve? I don't think there's any plastic on mine.

If you look at the top of the above above its where the rails disappear into the saddle

Ah yeah that's my saddle but those moulds aren't plastic they're part of the carbon saddle.

:-) Suppose if carbon is having difficulty keeping the rails tight plastic never would

I must have another look at it and see if there's any wear/movement around that area.

You could always pour in some gorilla glue or a two part epoxy and it'll never move.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,569 ✭✭✭harringtonp

Put a 2 part gorilla epoxy on it
