    Hi,

Am replacing my old worktop hob and putting in a new one.

Electrician on standby to wire it up.... but just wondering should I use a sealant around the hob to stop loose water seeping under it???

Is there a specific one ( especially a CLEAR one ) that anyone would recommend for this purpose?? something that wont discolour etc....

    Many thanks

Have you already unpacked the new hob? A new gasket should have been supplied - check your bin!

This is what it looks like ......

Many thanks for reply..... but my Hob is electric. Dont think a gasket is part of it.

No hasn't arrived yet.... paid for same on Sat - am awaiting delivery to store tomorrow. Electrician is set to call on Saturday so should be ready for him by then.

Wait until it comes and read the instructions, it'll probably tell you not to use sealant.

A gasket is even more important in the case of an electric hob because it's there to stop water seeping from the kitchen surface into the innards of the hob or dripping onto the oven below.

One will almost certainly be supplied with your hob.

I went to did.ie and picked the very first electric hob I could find. No mention of a seal or gasket in the product specs. but right at the start of the installation instructions in the user manual, there is a section ...

    Attaching the seal

    1. Clean the worktop around the cut out area.
    2. Attach the supplied seal stripe to the lower edge of the hob along the outer edge of the glass ceramic. Do not extend it. Make sure that the ends of the seal stripe are located in the middle of one side of the hob.

Last hob ,Bosch,I had, the sealant was already on the hob and just compressed in when hob dropped in.
