    Hi,

Got a new Syrian hamster for the kids today and it was running around the room which was sealed or so we thought - and it ends up going into the Island unit and now is down where the waste disposal pipe is.

It's impossible to get anywhere near it and I think the more we try to get it - the more we frighten it, and I think it's trying to dig its way out!

It could be stuck, if it is, it will die there and there will be no way of getting it out!

It's there nearly 24 hours, although this morning we could see it peaking its head out, but now we can just hear like a burying sound.

Any idea of how to get it out?

Try the food / bucket / ramp trick.
Food in a bucket (something nice) and a ramp up to the top of the bucket. Once he falls in he won’t get out.

Also try leaving the cage on the floor & doors open - hamsters wander about at night & chances are it’ll go back into the cage & decide it’s nicer than where it is at the moment

Get a humane mouse/rat trap from woodies, they just look like little plastic tunnels with a flap that only opens one way.

I once went to a music festival and accidentally left the hamster cage open. We were gone Friday evening to monday morning, got home and I was just panned out on the floor when I heard some rustling from under the fridge. We left a little food trail out and sure enough she was just chilling under there without a car in the world. We have no idea at what stage of the weekend she'd got out but she had access to the inner wall of the apartment building via a hole in the skirting board behind the fridge and she chose to stay in our apartment. No harm done and once retrieved she lived a very long life.

Just leave yours alone but leave out a nice enticement and a bit of privacy and you'll have it back in no time.
