Totally depends on what you are trading it in against. If it another used car then the important figure to focus on is the cost to change up price ie how much money you have to pay with your old car for the newer one.

You will probably get more for it by selling it privately as the big dealers are not going to resell a car of that age or mileage on their forecourt, they will sell it off to the trade (smaller independent dealers) so won't give you much for it.

Yes it will be against a 152 or 161 Passat.Probably would need too give 8 or 9k to change .

Then you need to compare cost to change up prices against dealer to dealer for the same car. Some dealers will give you a better trade in value than others but the car they are selling might be more expensive. They are good at moving figures around the place. The cost to change up is all that matters.

First step is to establish what a 15 or 16 Passat is actually worth.

They can vary greatly in price. Some 152s could be grand in the difference for same model.

Price variation is even bigger than that. You’ll have variables for:

    1.6 or 2.0
    Trim level
    Mileage
    Colour
    Private or dealer
    Main dealer or portakabin setup
    Service history
    Condition

Got €5750 for one 4 months ago, against 162 golf, mine had 160k km, 1 owner comfortline.
Car was probably worth 4.5 to 5k, the rest is discount off the other car.

Going for and what they sell for are two different things. I really cannot see anyone paying 7k for a 9 year old Golf with 160k miles on the clock.

2016 Passats are going for €20k according to carzone.

Currently being offered 5k or 5500 for my 11 golf.I am wondering if it's worth paying 10k plus for a 2016.

Your coming up 5 years and to a bigger car. If you want more for your car then your better off selling it privately.
