I live next to midleton train station ...it takes 20 mins to drive into cork city ... But it's 36 mins on the train ,
The track is only 15 years old ,there is four stops and I think 4 level crossings ,and an awful lot of swaying about ...

According to the timetable https://www.irishrail.ie/IrishRail/media/Timetable-PDF-s/Heuston-timetables/13_mallow_cobh_midleton.pdf there are 3 stops and the average time seems to be 23/24 minutes.

When does it take 20 minutes? The reason for the current speeds is a signalling issue between North Esk and Kent.

20 mins ,now. ( to the quays in cork )
In fairness That wouldnt work at rush hour ...
Used the train a few mornings last week took about 35 mins ,Google mapped it told me 36 mins ..
    Glad it's something temporary..

I'm open to correction on the four stops .. I counted leaving midleton stopping in carigtohil , glountain, little island and then cork ... But if cork isn't a stop fair enough ..

It needs a full upgrade so not temporary unfortunately. Trains are very hit and miss regarding journey time, Cork-Mallow can vary between 20 minutes to 30 minutes.
    Can never understand it.

It doesn't take 36 mins it takes 24 mins unless there is an unplanned delay. Trains sway a little, Midleton train is pretty standard Irish ride quality. There are three stops before Cork, Carrigtowhill, glounthaune, little island.

Only at the very quiet time would you drive into the city in 20 mins(with the foot down) The trains are packed during the morning and evening rush as people know the train is quicker and no parking hassle/cost at the other side. Tax saver makes it very affordable for regular commuters.

Room for improvement is the train speed between little island and Kent station plus later trains at the weekend(10:15 last departure from the city)

You want to complain then complain about the Bus service in East Cork.

I don't use the east cork buses,
I realise trains sway a little , seems to sway a lot ..
It may well have been unplanned delay,
I rarely have to go into cork at rushhour...so was comparing my usual driving time ( around 20 mins without the foot down) ,
The more the train gets used ,and the more useable it is the better to my mind ,
And I'm aware that adding extra stops would pact times a little ,but would welcome a carrigtohil industrial estate station ,and a dunkettle park and ride stop ( although I think that's been shot down )
