Power cuts

In the last two months have seen a significant increase in the amount in my area (N Tipp) was talking to my sister up in Meath and she said they have a lot of them as well. Just wondering is there a nationwide trend going on here? 2-3 hour power cuts. Not short ones. I’d imagine a right pain the arse for a dairyman.

My local co-op started selling pto generators maybe they are getting ahead of the game.

I heard a doom merchant on the goggle box one time say that failing large scale mid 20th century infrastructure will become a huge issue in the early to mid 21st century.

We have two notified this week, one yesterday and one again on Tuesday. They seem to be replacing a lotof the older poles holding transformers around our area which kinda makes sense as they would all have been put up around the same time?

Are yours notified or just happening at random?

There could have been notifications I didn’t check but most people I met didn’t seem to be expecting them. From the farming point of view the only worry I’d have is the electric fence. So I wouldn’t be checking websites or anything to see if they are notified. There was one for about 2 hours on Christmas Day. I would seriously doubt that was scheduled.

I've a relative in South Tipp and they have regular Electric and Water outiges. So much so they are thinking of refusing to pay the standing charges.

The water in south Tipp is a joke especially at the farther reaches of the fethard plant. Once a month it could be gone for 1 or 2 days.

Power was out here last week for a day , a planned outage , up to that I can’t remember when it was out before that

We have had one significant outrage here in last 10 years, 3 days without power when wet snow pulled down a line which damaged the transformer.

Other than that we only ever have planned outtages for maintenance.

Few months back I was on to ESB about unplanned outages. It was likely a call centre type place. They had all the info. They give me dates and over a yr period there was 13 outages. They had the times and duration of outages. I told them I wanted a call back and got a call a week later from local office. Got a bit of baloney of oh sorry we are doing our best. So I asked what was the specific problem and what were they doing and when would it be fixed. Its seemingly a transformer problem but which one is the problem. The mystery continues but no outage over the last 3 mths.

Is there not something about a rebate if the ESB go over so many outages in a given period?

Is it on calm days? They often get caught out when wind energy drops, most big factories get asked to cut back on demand when it happens

Actually you could be on to something all these power cuts occurred on calm days we didn’t have any outages during the recent storms.

All the big factories are definitely in some sort of agreement that on those calm days they'll cut back their demand when asked
