My 02 Beetle was in for nct and failed on tierod gators.
I've just removed both and they're perfect! Absolutely not a mark or crack on them, I've put a torch inside to check and nothing!
I've now got to pay for a retest and get the car there wasting a couple of hours of my time for something that wasn't a fail!
    WTF!?

It's possible that they were not properly secured. Sometimes the boots are missing a clip or even a cable tie and can be very easily slipped off. Had that very fail with an 06 beetle a good few years back.

Nope, all original metal clips on and fully secured. Tbh if I'd had a good look on a lift before removing the first one I'd have just taken it back in as is. I'm convinced they would have passed them.

Any oil dripping on them from somewhere?

Edit: can you post a pic?

I'll get one tomorrow. Dry and clean, absolutely no reason to fail them.
No cracks, no damage, no oil, no weak points.
Put a high power torch inside and flexed them to check, no light coming through.

What exactly did it say on the cert?

    Seems lousy.

Seems to be a fairly common (ish) complaint ... Some vehicles seem to get told they fail and the owner or their mechanic can't see the fault (if it exists), I had similar last year failed NCT on something or other, brought car to my mechanic who said it's perfectly fine, bring it back to them... I did and it passed.

Retest was done and passed within a week of original test.

They have you by the proverbials as soon as you accept the "fail" ... It's usually a case of pay the retest fee and get your cert.

Id say if you gave them a good clean up, take it back, different tester, pass.

Make sure to clean the car underneath so it's easy to see everything is in good nick.

I’ve contended 2 fails in the past and gotten the retest fee quashed on both occasions. First time was an incorrect fault was identified, second time they failed correctly on one test and didn’t carry out subsequent tests, which they then failed on second test... they should have picked it up on first test.

I’d be contending it. Why should you have to pay for a retest?

I take it you haven't seen the other NCT thread! They arent using the lifts due to the risk of cracks found in similar lifts.

Saw it late last night, got a text to say it's cancelled! Had a buyer supposed to collect today after test but they've pulled out of sale now! 👿
    New date is Feb 12th

What exactly was the wording on the fail sheet ? Did it have retest side-slip aswell ?
