    Imo such pets are a significant risk to biosecurity in this country. There are few if any checks on same being privately transported here on ferries etc as far as I can see.

    What happened to the anti rabies public awareness campaign that seemed to stop in the 1990s? I'm sure some still recall the tv ads.

    Why are people importing these weird things? Were they going to grow their own fur coat?

    Boom time’s massively explodes the private pet market.
    Everyone has a dog now, must be massive money for vets practice.

    Keeping animals as accessories and the rescue homes are full of unwanted animals, even some exotic ones. Just what we want, another invasive species. Are Customs half asleep letting these things in?

    But are the customs even checking for things, are there even customs? I havnt seen any customs coming off the ferries either in Dublin or Rosslare. There gardai there checking nationality, but haven't seen customs with years...

    Customs have definitely been getting more prominent at the ports in recent years.
    But it’s all drugs related activity.

    Coming back from France they do look for human trafficking, randomly searching caravans and motor homes. Our caravan was searched for hidden people this summer gone by.
