RIP. Country owed him a lot for all his work.

His class of politician very much an endangered species in the north unfortunately.

His belief in a peaceful solution has benefited everyone in NI, he showed that nationalism rejected violence as a means to gain reunification.

He was a Catholic growing up in the majority Protestant village of Markethill in Co. Armagh. He played Gaelic football and always had antipathy towards IRA violence.

If we had more of his like in both sides in NI I would have no doubt they would be genuinely moving forward.

Seamus Mallon was a true Republican. He detested violence of all types wherever it came from Loyalist or Republican terrorists, British army, R.U.C. etc.
The Sinn Fein I.R.A. gang especially hated him because he wouldn't bow down and allow them control the community.
They were so bitter against him that the Army Council told their puppets to vote against him getting the Freedom of Drogheda

Agreed, he was a great man.

On a curious note, did you open this account today just to write about this?
