I can see the attraction of sitting atop a hill in Kashmir smoking pot for the rest of my days.

Or would the novelty wear off quickly?

    Nah, it'd be great.

    No WiFi though

I find wool too itchy and not exactly waterproof.

Yes, but once it did you could start smoking opium.

I opt out of life every morning at 7am when my alarm goes.
Life wont let me go though :/

Yes, but once it did you could start smoking opium.

And after that jump off the cliff. That's really opting out.

I suppose I've opted out as much as I can. I don't subscribe to the typical ideals of what life should be. I reckon if I won the lotto, i'd build a mansion and never come out, if only to go on holidays. I'd have everything delivered to the door so I wouldn't have to interact with people. I shall continue to dream...

If you were suited to that lifestyle you would already be doing it.

In many ways that is how I live. except no holidays!

I do not see it as opting out of life but rather choosing how I live?

Perforce I do not go out; illness etc, but I also chose this life.

Depends what you mean by "life"? I am old and in poor health and enjoy solitude and the peace out here islanded. It is still LIFE... retired means from having to work etc?

I involve a little; yes and all is delivered to the door! And I feel more alive than ever and am in touch via phone etc with those who matter to me

I’m opting out. Gonna get a caravan, live on a roadside, dump my rubbish in the ditch nearby. Stop paying taxes. Naturally, I’ll need some income, so planning to terrorise local farmers and housing estates and make off with their cash and jewelry, all the way claiming I’m being discriminated against.

Am I the only one who read the title of the thread and thought it'd be about euthanasia/assisted suicide for the mentally ill?

Thank you! It has great advantages! Which is why I chose it. As I did. I have lived like this before in Orkney and had longed to return to it.

Not been offisland for well over a year and no need to do so. It is home in so many ways

Do it for a year and see how you get on. Sure why not!

We had folk doing that up in the outer Orkney islands. Well, they thought they had moved permanently, having visited in summer when it hardly went dark... They usually lasted until around winter, when it hardly gets light, then one day they vanished... in great haste. One house owner who rented said" They left their dungarees in the washing machine!"

But at least they tried... Only way…

Is that opting out of life, or wasting life?

You're still very much opted in, in my opinion, unless you kill yourself. You're just describing a different life to what you (presumably) live at the moment.
