Has anyone used blackcircles for tyres?

As above, I’ll need to replace the 225/40R18 Continentals on the front of the Octavia soon. Predictably they didn’t last too long, as has been the case with any Continentals I’ve had.

Looking at alternatives, was originally thinking GoodYear Eagle F1 at €110 fitted but GoodYear Efficientgrip Performance at €100 might actually be a better all rounder as they’re quieter and more efficient.
I probably drive on the hard side, so would the F1 be a better choice, any idea how they compare in terms of wear?

Blackcircles apparently partner with Mid West Tyres who have loads of branches locally, I’ve used Mid West before and found them great if sometimes a bit pricey. I can also use Safeway in Ennis, again I’ve used them before and was very happy.

So has anyone used blackcircles before?

    havent used BC

    but if it helps ..

I had GEPs on my yoke for 40000k down to 2 mil ,
    rotated every 10 k

    mainly motorway ( 75% )

some people say they are boaty on a bigger car ( but good on small hatches )
as they have a thin side wall / more flexible side

i did think it was a great tyre though , quiet and very grippy .
and do notice less fuel use compared the tuarnza now

I had F1s for a few years. They are exceptionally grippy. So much so, that I reckon they prevented me having a bad crash when I had to react very quickly on a moist surface when a truck drove on the wrong side of the road, many years ago. They did wear very fast though. €110 is a good price for them. I think I had paid north of €140 per corner years ago.

Currently Im using Falken Azenis FK510 225/45 and and 235/45 (rears) working great. They get pushed hard (RWD 2.8) and have never let me down. Fairly quiet as well.

I’ve negotiated Bridgestone Turanza T005 for €100 as well which is cheaper than on blackcircles.

I want something good but something that will do the mileage too.

The Good Year efficientgrip are quieter than the Bridgestone though. Any thoughts on this?

I'd have the Efficentgrip over the Turanza any day. I wouldn't rate the Turanza or Potenza range as being anything special to be honest.

tuaranza will last longer maybe 50000 , but are VERY loud and get a little hard and spinny at 3 to 3.5 mil
im dumping mine soon as they are 2 mil and that will be 50k km

they use a tad more fuel as well

if it was me id go Goodyear , thats a good deal
if it suits your car tho, and they are softer then the tuarnza, espically side walls

i plan on getting hankook ventus next myself .

Used them last week. Ordered online and they arranged for them to be supplied and fitted locally at a time and day that suited me. I found them very efficient.

I’ve had Turanzas on the Civic and thought they were great.

They were definitely in the loud side, but they’re supposedly the same dB as the Continentals I have now

    Leaning towards the GoodYears.

The sound is measured externally, so different insulation on different cars could make one seem louder than the other.

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 Asy 5 on the Golf and find them really good even a massive improvement in grip over Asy 3. The Efficientgrip are also suppose to be a good tyre. Really you can’t go wrong with either.

Why not look at Tyreleader? They’re likely cheaper than BC.
Another to check out is Continental Premium Contact 6, check out Tyrereviews for their rating. Plus in that size they’re keenly priced (€97.60 ea.).

They don't seem to have any locations in the midlands. They give Gort as my nearest option at 37km away when it's more like 100?

Need to replace my front's soon have Michelin Primacy 3's all round still plenty left on back but fronts are getting near 2mm after 33k km. Still feel like they have plenty of grip. Quoted 150 each for at my local tyre place where I usually go. Blackcircles are 142 for Primacy 4s 25 50 17. The Goodyear efficiency grip seem to be a nice bit cheaper@ €125

Replaced the Potenza's on my wife's car with F1's they seemed quite good didn't have them long enough to see how they wore but I never had any issues with the Potenza's that came on the car and I tend to push on.

Have a huge dislike for Continental. Problem with tyreleader is the price (which is the same as BC) doesn’t include fitting, whereas blackcircles is all included.
No garage nearby to fit them either.

The outgoing Turanza T001 was a really good tyre, good grip in wet and dry and you really knew when you were at the limit, going through roundabouts and turns at a fair pace you could feel them holding on. The T005 is apparently better all around so can't really go wrong.

I pushed them hard pretty often and they were good in wet braking. Downside is the wear, only got 21,000km or so on mine. They had 3mm left but the grip dropped off fairly quick. Plenty of life left on the rear though, 6mm at the last service around 24,000km.

If you're considering the Eagle F1 maybe look at the P Zero, I think they're a similar price?

I'd have no real issues going back to the Turanza if I wanted something a bit cheaper than the PS4.

I used BlackCircles a while ago. Found them great as I messed up my order (d'oh!) but they were very understanding on the phone and ended up collecting the incorrect tyres I ordered and replacing them with the right ones when I realized my mistake. Took a few days but they even refunded me the difference!
Have to say MidWest Tyres were super too, they worked with BC and rang me when the correct tyres came in, no hassle.

Sorry, I missed the fact that they were fitting for that price as well. That’s very good.

The report said that all 4 allow wheels showed scuff marks.
The alloys were a week old and pristine.

Oh ok. That wouldn’t worry me as the appointed fitters in my area are excellent. Thanks for sharing the info all the same.

GY Eagle F1 ASY 5 are a great tyre, I have them on the front of my Accord 2.2 Tourer and they are very good in the wet and give great steering feedback.
Lifespan? Who knows, mine are on since December, I will report back once I find out.
They replaced Falken FK510, which gripped well initially but grip fell off once they wore in a bit.

My tyre size is 235/45-18 so not to different to the Civic.

I bought the Falken from Tyres Pneus and the GY from Tyreleader.
I find Tyreleader deliver quickest of all the online tyre companies.
Eiretyres,Oponeo and Tyres Pneus are all slower in my experience.
The one thing that Tyres Pneus do differently is sell Tyre Insurance which covers potholes etc. never used it but if I do blow a tyre it might be handy.

Went with the GoodYear Efficientgrip Performance for €200.
Amazed that 18” premium tyres can be had so priced 205/55R16 a year ago and was getting higher prices than that.

That's a good price, I haven't run the EG in 18" I did in 205-55-16 on my 7th Gen Tourer and found them to be pretty long lasting.
It would be nice to hear what they are like once you have a few month on them.

Just wondering if you ended up using Black Circles. If you did, how did it go? And if you did, did you get car aligned. Did they charge full whack for this? Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I’m getting them fitted tomorrow. I don’t need to get the wheels aligned but I would assume the garage themselves would price you for that. I def wouldn’t be expecting a deal on alignment as they have to be making far less on this than if I bought their choice of in-stock tyre from them.

My understanding is they will have received a phone call from BC to sign up to their list. The garage bill BC a set amount for fitting of the new tyres and disposal of the old tyres.

FWIW I didn’t get my old car aligned in 7 years of ownership, I got alignment checked after fitting new wishbone bushings in 2019 and it was still perfect.

Sounds good. I need 4 new tyres as my dunlops are only lasting me about 6months and local garage was 135per type fitted.
