I'm putting a room in the attic. I'm keeping the existing insulation between joists.
Is it necessary to keep some airflow or is it okay being packed.
    Thankyou.

Like a liveable room or a storage space?

Sorry should have been clearer. Bedroom.

Thanks for link. I'll have no problem with laying floorboards - all clear. Just wondering should I leave an obvious gap for airflow between boards and insulation?

there's a raft of building and fire regulations you need to follow to convert an attic into a bedroom - hire a professional.

    This.

OP you need to think about a myriad of things, not least of which is a fire escape route.

But insulation, ventilation, access, egress, wiring, structure, etc all need to be designed.
It's far more than adding plasterboard and decorating.

There's no problem with all those things. All sorted. I know some people leave out insulation to allow heat to rise. I'm mostly leaving it in for sound proofing. I'm just concerned about sweating.

Its ireland it's mostly cold I would be more worried about freezing. The attic is a cold space

I dont understand how all those things are "all sorted" yet you dont know what you are doing about insulation?

    How is this possible?

Exactly. So one would need to insulate the roof itself while providing an adequate ventilation. I second the opinion that this job is better left to professionals.

The floor is internal so won't sweat just like the floors on the 1st floor. I insulated our floor but I also made sure there was no gaps in the side attic where the side wall meets the joists, if you know what I mean. Otherwise, the cold air will blow across from the cold space at the side.

It's all sorted because the room was already built. I'm putting down floorboards and was just asking for advice about the insulation in the floor.

Thanks to keithdub and fred funk.

Thanks to keithdub and fred funk.

How was the room built without floorboards?

    /edit
I'm not trying to be a dick here, but we have no context other than what you post, and no one here wants to see your house fall down because they gave advice without all the info.

Temporary floor laid down within the room itself to allow for the reclaimed floorboards we were waiting on.
