Buying an older model of running shoe

It's time to change the running shoes again (boy do the miles clock up!!)

I've been wearing Asics Gel Pulse runners since I started running properly and I've generally liked them and not felt the need to look at other brands or models of shoe. My current pair are Gel Pulse 9's which I wasn't loving when I bought them first, I found them to be a slightly smaller fitting but got used to them or they must have stretched out. Asics are now on Gel Pulse 11's. But I seen online on sportshoes.com a pair of Gel Pulse 8's which I used to have before and at a good price. I liked the shoes when I had them and only had to throw them out cos I literally wore away the inside of the heels.

My question is : is there any issue with buying an older model of a runner? Does the material lessen in quality over time? I'm not a competitive runner so maybe things like that don't matter to someone like me. But I don't want it to be a case of "buy cheap buy twice".

I always buy old versions of my Mizuno Wave Inspires, Brooks st5s, and adidas ultraboosts. Great deals to be had on older versions. No issues regarding deterioration of materials. Have not been injured in years.go for it!

I've bought previous years versions of shoes too and had no issues with them. Most recently i've bought Pegasus 35 when 36 is the latest model. I've done the same with Mizuno Wave Riders and possibly other shoes too. I don't see any reason not to.

Once they're not sitting on the shop floor or in a window should be grand

Novice here looking for advice. Currently running in Asics gel pulse 11. And there is nothing wrong in them. Is just that I believe they are too much for 5 km runs Im targeting now. Im looking for something lighter, with less cushinning, maybe less hill drop, less clunky. And in under €90? Old models would do grand. Any recommendations??

I've had to resort to eBay quite a few times to buy older versions of runners where they've been discontinued or the new versions don't fit as well. Searching for the UPC code works extremely well to find the exact model.
