Tricky one. Somewhat stuck on this issue.

No-one is able to explain how it works if one wants to import a number of electronics goods that are end of life, but still of use for my company.

Been offered a few pallets of Cisco server and networking hardware for no cost. Shipping all of this is reasonable, but VAT/duty is an complete unknown to Ireland. This is from south-east Asia.

The gear has a total value of perhaps €10k second hand, but who determines that value? There are no receipts for the equipment from new.
Have access to serial numbers, but that is all.

Any experts, or link suggestions to read?

TLDR: Importing goods that is not sold, but given. The only cost I can prove is the shipping cost. How to calculate VAT/duty?

It is based on the price paid, not the value when new, isn’t it? The sender has to fill in a customs declaration.
